(Will) In the name of God Amen the sixth day of May 1777 IJames Turpen of the County of Botetourt farmer being inperfoect health both in body and mind thanks be given untoGod therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my bodyand knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die tomake and ordain this my last will and testament that is tosay, principally and first of all I give and recommend mysoul unto the hands of almighty God that gavest and my bodyI recomment to the eart to be buried in decent Christianburial at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubtingbut at the general resurrection I shall receive the sameagain by the mighty power of God and as touching suchworldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me inthis life, I give, demise and dispos of the same in thefollowing manner and form. First I given and bequeath untomy mother whom I make and ordain my sole executrix of thismy last will and testament all and singular my lands andpersonal estate by her to be freely possesed and enjoyedthe duration of her life and then my lands to be appointedby three sworn me chosen by my executor or the court andequally divided between my brothers viz Martin, Aaron andSolomon without selling these lands, with leting Solomonhave the home plantation when at age with satisfying theothers what the said land shall be over and above his pataccording to the pooraisment of the whole. And I do herebyutterly disallow, revoke and disanull all and every otherformer testaments, wills, legacies, bequests and executorsby me any ways before named willed and bequeathed ratifyingthis and no other to be my last will and testament inwitness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal theday and year above written.
